I may have gotten you on this one. When we think of Stephen King in Maine, we think of Bangor where he lives or Lisbon where he went to High School. Well bub, Stephen was born in Portland on September 21, 1947. From Salem’s Lot to Cujo to Firestarter and so many more, his books really got me into reading for fun as a kid. And growing up in Maine, it was always extra scary that most of his stories took place here.

ANDREA MARTIN

I first remember seeing Andrea doing sketch comedy on SCTV as Edith Prickley a character who thought that every man lusted after her. She is also famous for her roles in Wag the Dog and My Big Fat Greek Wedding among many other films. Andrea was born in Portland on January 15, 1947. Her father, John Martin was also famous (around Maine anyway) as the owner of The Merry Manor and The Art Gallery restaurants.

That’s right! The star of the CBS hit-comedy Alice is from here too! She was so great in that role, very real and believable as a single-mom and waitress working with Vera, Mel and Flo. She is also an incredible singer (she sang the Alice theme song) and has done a lot of work both on and off Broadway. Linda was born in Portland on October 15, 1937.
