Palms open, eyes to the heavens, I thank God almost every day that Social Media was not in play when I was dating. I often operated without declaring a "relationship status". I can't imagine the pressure of having to publicly declare whether I'm "in a relationship." The only scenario that would seem worse is to have an ex up in my business and watching my every fallen tear or hook-up on my Facebook page. We are all experiencing an amazing lack of privacy that can make a painful breakup even worse. Facebook has added a feature as, quote, "part of our ongoing effort to develop resources for people who may be going through difficult moments in their lives."

Here's the skinny on regaining your Facebook anonymity from your ex:

When you change your status from "in a relationship" to "single", Facebook will give you the option to block your posts from showing up on their page and from theirs showing up on yours. You also have the option of removing any posts or photos that you tagged them in.

Does Facebook make breakups harder? Comment on our Fan Page or tweet #singlestatus.

Thanks, Facebook.

Celeste
