After more than three decades in business, Back Bay Cycle will be closing their doors soon, leaving a void for Portland's cycling community.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Back Bay Bicycle's owner, Cheryl Oliver, wasn't keen on the idea of signing another long term lease or dealing with the obstacles of moving her business, so she choose option three, closing the doors for good. Back Bay Cycle has been operating at it's Forest Avenue location for 25 years.

Longtime customers were informed of the business decision via email and have visited the bicycle shop to snap up great liquidation deals as well as thank Oliver for operating the successful shop for so long. Back Bay Bicycle, which has been Portland's go-to place for bike repairs and maintenance classes, is being considered a major loss by residents and visitors who have considered it a staple of the biking community.

Oliver had hoped to sell the business to one of her current employees, in hopes of keeping the tradition alive, but unfortunately that business deal never came together. For generations, several families have visited Back Bay Bicycle to fit themselves and their children with the perfect bikes.

Say goodbye to another Portland business that has left their mark.
