My daughter started sixth grade a couple weeks ago and the pressure is on to get her a cell phone. Have cell phones become a back to school supply along with number 2 pencils? Why can't a kid can't walk ten minutes from home to school without one?! I walked to and from school successfully without a phone, why the panic? I guess it's the same ingrained worry of dehydration that causes children to be in constant possession of a water bottle. For real, what's up with the desperate need to carry water?! O.K., that's another rant, I'll stick to cell phones... My daughter has not begun after school activities other than doing homework with friends, there is a landline at her school if she needs to reach me and she walks right past me after school if she needs to tell me something. Yet everyday I am pummeled by requests for a cell phone!
