This weekend the focus for Augusta's Julia Clukey is taking the next step in an effort to earn a spot on the U.S. National Luge Team. However, her long-term goal is the 2018 Olympics.

Clukey announced her plans to compete for a spot on the Olympic team at a Monday press conference in her hometown. The announcement came before catching a flight to Salt Lake City for this weekends National Championships.

A member of the 2010 Olympic team, Clukey just missed making the squad in 2014 by .013 seconds. Pointing out the fact that she is healthy and still has a desire to compete with the best in the world, her commitment and focus is to make the team that travels to Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018.

Clukey is off to a good start to this season after winning her 8th career U.S. National Start Championship and getting her first win of the season by taking the Lillehammer Cup in October.

You can hear Clukey talk about her decision on Tuesday's Morning Pitch show.
