Clay Buchholz was dominant for eight innings and the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blus Jays 3-1 Monday night in the opening game of a big four game series north of the border.

Buchholz(6-6) scattered five hits and didn't walk anyone while striking out five. He threw just 96 pitches. Buchholz lowered his ERA to a team leading 3.48.

Koji Uehara pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 17th save.

Xander Bogaerts got the big hit of the game. In the third inning, he ripped a two-run double. Brock Holt had the other RBI.

Alejandro De Aza had three hits, Mookie Betts had two.
