Safety & Savings Event for Children at Portland Sea Dogs (Children's Safety Event)

The Portland Sea Dogs and Bangor Savings Bank have teamed up for a Safety & Savings Event for Children at Hadlock Field. The event will feature the Mason's CHIP Program (Child Identification Program). The program kit includes a videotape and fingerprinting of each child and will be given to parents to keep in case of a disappearance or other emergency. Other fun activities will take place such as face-painting, clowns, safety personnel onsite and giveaways.

The Orr’s & Bailey Islands Fire Department will hold its annual Auction and Yard Sale on Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8, at the Orr’s Island Fire Station, 1600 Harpswell Islands Road, Route 24, on Orr’s Island in Harpswell.A giant yard sale and silent auction will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The live auction will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m., with preview and registration beginning at 9 a.m. A silent auction will feature more than 100 gift certificates donated by area businesses, including meals from restaurants, motel accommodations, lobsters from local fishermen, automotive and marine supplies and services, jewelry, art and clothing, home and garden supplies and services, personal care and health supplies and services, recreation opportunities and many more.Other activities during the weekend include raffles for free food and other items, with a cash prize drawn on Sunday at the conclusion of the live auction. Breakfast and lunch will be offered for sale on both days.Proceeds from the auction and sale benefit the Orr's & Bailey Islands Fire Department, which provides fire and rescue services on Orr's and Bailey Islands and portions of Great Island east of the Mountain Road bridge and south of the Nazarene Church on Route 24. All money raised goes to support the fire and rescue operations and for training to better serve the community.

Seven piece Funk/Hip-Hop group Grant Street Orchestra is having a party in the hub of Portland's art and music scene, playing their first 18+ show ever. At 9 p.m. Friday Aug. 27, SPACE Gallery on Congress Street in Portland is going to get a taste of Parkside as the stage will be dressed up as a front stoop from the funky side of town. Grant Street is celebrating the end of an amazing summer with friends, dancing, and playing music one last time before the fall air sneaks through the city.
