37 years ago this week, Styx played a sold out show at theCivic Center in Portland. They were on tour in support of the mega-album, The Grand Illusion and this stop in Blimpville happened on August 18, 1978, just weeks before the release of Pieces of Eight in September.
34 years ago today, Ozzy Osbourne rocked the Civic Center with the late, great Randy Rhoads. Sadly, he was gone less than a year later in that tragic plane crash. We’re very glad Portland had a chance to see Ozzy and Randy together on August 5, 1981.
32 years ago today, Jackson Browne returned for his 4th appearance at the Civic Center. It was also his 3rd sold-out show in Portland's biggest venue. He arrived onstage here in Blimpville 2 days after the release of his album Lawyers in Love on August 4, 1983.
Jackson Browne loves Portland, Maine. He has been here regularly since his first show at the Civic Center in 1977. He even immortalized our great city in his song Nothin' But Time with the lyric, "Rollin' down 295 out of Portland Maine...still high from the people up there and feelin' no pain", so awesome! He recorded it on the tour bus after that first Portland show. You can even hear the hum of engine in the background on the recording.
