Welcome to the Atlantic Hurricane season. Yup, on top of the pandemic and social unrest and even Maine shark attacks, now the USA gets to weather... the weather. Meteorologists are saying it's already an active season and its just getting started. Luckily, (knock on wood) no major storms have hit landfall on the East Coast. The next one brewing is Tropical Storm Isaias.
We've seen some crazy summer weather in the past week in Maine. Severe thunderstorms that knocked out power to thousands of Mainers. Even a tornado in Hiram. It's good to be on high alert, especially as more of us are outside and on the water this time of year. Our friends at the National Weather Service in Gray have sent us this model for thunderstorms and their timing for this afternoon:
We hope you're ready for some hot weather in the next couple of days. We're looking at '80s and 90 degree high temps. Summer in Maine! Our friends at the National Weather Service over there in Gray found this interesting tidbit. We know it's been pretty dry the past couple of weeks but we had no idea just HOW dry!
The wicked Mainer reactions from the guys on the crew are hoot to hear while we watch too. One of them jokingly encourages somebody to "Go stand in it."
What is very good to know is that the Town of Old Orchard Beach is making it clear that all visitors follow the CDC social-distancing guidelines of staying 6 feet from other folks and making sure your group is no more than 10 people.
Looks like Maine may be getting some severe thunderstorms this evening. We have warnings from two of our most trusted sources, The National Weather Service in Gray and from the ultra-talented Charlie Lopresti from WGME Look for the rain to pick up after 5 pm and then thunderstorms to happen between 6 pm and 10 pm. Batten down the hatches! Hey, we absolutely love a good thunderstorm...as long as we know it's coming and we can prepare!
We are lovin' a second gorgeous Maine day in April this week with temps around 50. It's hard to imagine having to shovel and plow again anytime time soon.
