The official state beverage of Maine is under new management and that management is soft-drink cornerstone Coca-Cola. According to the Portland Press Herald, Coca-Cola will close on a deal to fully acquire the rights to the iconic beverage by the end of 2018.

In a statement, Coca-Cola maintains that not much would change. The formula, which can be a bit of an acquired taste, will remain the same. The bottling plant in New Hampshire will remain operational and about the only thing that will change is that Moxie will potentially go from being a regional drink to a nationwide offering from Coke.

The acquisition is also unlikely to affect the annual Moxie-Fest held in Lisbon every year.
