If you've traveled on Commercial Street in Portland lately you've noticed it's in a state of construction hell right now. Torn up streets, holes in the ground, cones, flaggers, police. When will this mess end? You may not like the answer.

Commercial Street is in the process of being repaved all the way from Franklin Arterial to Beach Street, or in other words, pretty much the whole damn thing.

The work needs to be done but it will make getting from one end of Commercial Street to the other a headache, and right in the middle of tourist season too.

It's not strictly paving either. New pipes are being laid in the ground, long abandoned railroad tracks in the street have been pulled up and sidewalks are being worked on. It should be great when it's done. When exactly will that be? August 27. Strap yourselves in.

You might want to take an alternate route during the day. Good luck there too. This was what Temple Street looked like this morning.
