Driving Audi's R8 can provide the same thrills as a trip to the moon. At least that's the premise behind their new Super Bowl ad, which uses David Bowie's "Starman," and can be viewed above.

In the clip, called Commander, a stone-faced retired astronaut is sitting in his chair, staring at the photos, press clippings and medals on the wall from the days when he was a national hero. His son comes in, drops a bag of groceries on the counter, goes over to his father and says, OK, Commander. Come with me."

They head outside where the son's Audi R8 is parked. Bowie's song begins as they walk towards the car, and the father, through flashbacks, is reminded of what it was like to pilot a spaceship. He smiles as the R8 speeds through the night. "Choosing the moon brings out the best in us," the on-screen graphic says.

"Starman" was the lead single from Bowie's 1972 classic, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. It only reached No. 65 in the U.S. but peaked at No. 10 in the U.K. Given the amount of time it takes to produce a commercial, it is likely that this was planned long before Bowie's death on Jan. 10.

Bowie isn't the only classic rocker who will be seen on television during this Sunday's (Feb. 7) big football game between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots. Steven Tyler is part of Skittles' Super Bowl campaign, where he is shown a portrait of himself made out of the candy.
