According to WGME, local hospitals are seeing a LOT of action due to the snowy, slippery, icy walking conditions. Maine Medical Center has had an emergency room full of patients suffering from bruises, breaks and even heart attacks.

I can personally attest to this as one friend recently slipped on ice and got a concussion, another friend of HIS met the same fate and my friend, John, slipped on the ice going to a Superbowl party and snapped his ankle. I broke my ankle last winter!

Shoveling snow is even more stressful for your heart than most people think. it's very similar to taking a stress test, and not everyone passes. We often shovel way more snow than we should in one day, or even in a week, and the excursion can lead to a life threatening situation.

Medical professionals recommend taking your time whether walking or shoveling, and to take plenty of rest breaks when working outside.
