Our house is filled with tumbleweeds of pet fur! I vacuum every day, but as I am putting my vacuum away I have to go back over a couple of spots because the fur has already returned! We have two long haired dogs, one white, one black, and one ginger cat. There is no "safe" color to wear in my house. We have a royal blue micro-fiber couch that particularly collects the cat fur, and our aging Samoyed is now officially allowed on the couch as well. Vacuuming and the velvet lint brush are not getting it done. I am now exploring non-traditional methods of fur removal.

Here are some suggestions that I discovered during my research:

  • Wipe down furniture with a slightly dampened latex glove, moving in circular motions
  • I have found some success using a damp washcloth to lift hair off of my velvet couch where Stanley, our cat, has made his headquarters. Move in only one direction. A damp sponge is worth a try too.
  • some people swear by rubber dishwashing gloves
  • Duck Tape or masking tape. wrap them around your hand, sticky side out to pull up the fur. This method gets expensive.
  • A stiff scrub brush may work for you

All of these methods depend on the fabric that you are working with, and the type of fur. I found a couple of useful videos, good luck!

Or maybe just try this! Instead of vacuuming the floor, vacuum the dog! I tried this and Raven was not compliant with my request...

Even the White House is besieged by pet fur!

The battle rages on! If you have any shedding season tips to share with the group, post them on our Fan Page or tweet #lintbrushfail

I also seem to be shedding!
