Are you a big fan of the Canadian-inspired dish of poutine? It starts with french fries (or some form of fried potatoes), a smothering of gravy, melted cheese or cheese curds, and sometimes meat or fish to top it off. Portland is a poutine destination and with so many eateries offering their own twist on the dish, you'll never run out of spots to grub on some gravy-smothered fries.

Boone's Fish House & Oyster Room

Lobster poutine seems like a natural variation on the dish in Maine. Boone's Fish House isn't the only Portland restaurant to offer lobster on top, but everyone seems to agree that they do it the best.

Duckfat

Duckfat is known for their dishes fried in, well, duck fat. The poutine is nuts -- duck gravy, duck fact fired Belgian fries, and locally sourced cheese curds.

Nosh Kitchen Bar

Nosh Kitchen Bar is known for their off the wall dishes, like a burger made with two deep fried mac and cheese patties for a bun. They've also got a variety of french fries all made with Norwiss Potatoes from Lewiston, Maine. These local fries are the base for Nosh's classic-but-amazing poutine.

Blue Rooster Food Company

Not feeling french fries? What about tater tots in your poutine? Blue Rooster in the Old Port crushes the french fry poutine rule by topping their tater tots with cheese curds and gravy. This is a popular spot after the bars close downtown. Trust me, it's worth the wait after some beer-soaked evenings.
