Geoff Tate Is Now ‘The Voice of Queensryche’

Geoff Tate is now billing himself as “The Voice of Queensryche.” This appears to be the result of the as-yet unannounced legal settlement between the singer and the band he fronted from 1982 until two years ago.

Blabbermouth notes that Tate’s site, Queensryche.com, has been updated with a new banner bearing the new slogan. It’s worth noting that the site’s new navigation includes a link to “Queensryche Without Geoff Tate,” the current version of Queensryche that’s fronted by vocalist Todd La Torre.

Last week, Queensryche guitarist Michael Wilton said that official word on an end to the lawsuit was “coming up” and added, “What I can say is that both sides have reached an amicable settlement and it’s now just a matter of time. There will be an official press release but for now, you’ll have to wait.”

Tate and Queensryche have been battling for the rights to the name ever since he was fired from the band in 2012 and responded by starting his own version of the group. A judge previously ruled that both sides could continue using the Queensryche name, and both went on to release new Queensryche albums, but that always seemed like a temporary solution at best.

Whatever we end up hearing from Tate and Queensryche in terms of legal settlements, it appears that the La Torre-fronted version of the group is going full steam ahead on its next LP. “We have probably six songs demoed so far,” revealed Wilton in his interview. “We’re taking it in a direction suited to what we do as Queensryche but maybe a little more progressive and heavier. The thing is, you never know what you really have until it’s complete. It’s like carving a piece of clay and seeing how it turns out. You peel off the layers until you get to something really cool.”
