On a weekend when 8 new members were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it is also a weekend that they lost one of their members with the passing of Frank Gifford at the age of 84.Gifford died of natural causes at the age of 84 at his home in Connecticut. The following is a statement released by his family.

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank Gifford. Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home. We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers.

Gifford played 14 years in the NFL leading the New York Giants to a league championship in 1952. He was also named to the pro bowl team 8 times and the 1950 All-Decade team. Gifford amassed 3,609 rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns along with 5,434 receiving yards and caught 43 touchdown passes.
