Halloween is all about being scared, but your pet is the exception. Costumes and loud noises can lead to psychological and sometimes physical suffering.

Keep in mind:

  • There are people out there who hurt animals. It's awful, but it's true.
  • Keep your dogs, cats, or whatever, safe and sound inside your home.
  • Playing soothing music may help distract them from all of the sounds around them. Provide them with their favorite toy, blanket or bone.
  • It's always good to be on the safe side and make sure they are wearing I.D., just in case they do get out and get lost.
  • Walk your dog before trick or treaters go out, those costumes can really upset an animal, don't put them through it!
  • Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats, especially small breads. Symptoms of it are: dilated pupils, rapid heartbeat, seizures, hyperactivity and coma.
  • Don't force your pet into a costume and don't make them wear a mask. They need to breathe and vocalize comfortably.
  • Watch out for lit Jack-O-Lanterns, electrical cords and decorations that could cause your dog injury.
