Halloween Pet Safety!
Halloween is all about being scared, but your pet is the exception. Costumes and scary, loud noises can lead to psychological and sometimes physical suffering.
Keep in mind:
- There are people out there who hurt animals. It's awful, but it's true.
- Keep your dogs, cats, or whatever, safe and sound inside your home.
- Playing soothing music may help distract them from all of the sounds around them. Provide them with their favorite toy, blanket or bone.
- It's always good to be on the safe side and make sure they are wearing I.D., just in case they do get out and get lost.
- Walk your dog before trick or treaters go out, those costumes can really upset an animal, don't put them through it!
- Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats, especially small breads. Symptoms of it are: dilated pupils, rapid heartbeat, seizures, hyperactivity and coma.
- Don't force your pet into a costume and don't make them wear a mask. They need to breathe and vocalize comfortably.
- Watch out for lit Jack-O-Lanterns, electrical cords and decorations that could cause your dog injury.
