Identity Thieves are Targeting Your Mail Box
It's a magical time of year for identity thieves because our mail boxes are filled with W-2 forms, 1099 forms and all types of financial documents brimming with personal information that they can steal to impersonate you. The government estimates that about 1 in 14 Americans have been targeted for identity theft. To try to minimize your exposure to these scoundrels and avoid the enormous headaches they cause, beef up your security. You can buy a mail box with a lock or rent a box at your local post office. If you've moved in the past year, make sure that all important parties have your updated mailing address and that you've filed a change of address with the post office as well. If you feel that there's a document you should have recieved, follow up on it. The I.R.S. is on it, so stay tuned for more progress to come in the fight against identity theft.
