Here are two of my favorite people in the whole wide world, Mrs. Butterworth and Buddha. This is a snow day lunch for my kids. As I was putting a fresh stick of sea-salted butter into my "Buddha Dish" I wondered if leaving it out on the counter is really terrible and unsafe?I like butter spreadable, we're a toast lovin' family. Some people are grossed out by a counter-top butter dish and are afraid you will serve them rancid butter with their crescent roll. My kitchen is at approximately the same temperature as my refrigerator right now, so I'm having no issues, but during the summer higher fat butters will melt easily.

According to Land O'Lakes, butter should stay fresh for two weeks at room temperature. Salted butter may last longer. Whew! That's settled, now I am going to make some blueberry muffins and slather them with delicious, creamy, soft butter!

Do you refrigerate your butter? Leave a comment or tweet #rancidbutter
