UMaine hockey scored two first period goals and made them hold up for a 3-1 Saturday night win over Canisius. The Bears start the second of the season with a weekend sweep.

Blaine Byron scored a powerplay goal early in the first period, Will Merchant added the game winner late in the period. Nolan Vesey added the insuranace goal in the third period.

Maine goalie Sean Romeo made 25 saves and the Bears improve to 6-13-1 with non-conference games at UMass next.
