I never remember to bring my reusable bags to the grocery store. Please don't throw rotten tomatoes at me, we reuse them. Mostly. The other thing that we have been using them for is to put other recyclables in. We hang a Shaw's bag on the kitchen doorknob and it gets filled with milk cartons, spaghetti jars and yogurt containers and the the whole thing goes into our recycle bin. I thought that I was being a good citizen. NOPE! I did some research after a conversation with a much more "woke" friend than me and here's the dish: plastic grocery bags gunk up recycling machinery and are a giant pain in the a** to recycling plants. Take your bags back to your grocery store and they will dispose of them properly. I asked at my fave grocery store and they urged me to bring them back. A little off subject, but those bags are not worth five cents.

Other plastic things that I thought could go in my recycle bin but can't:

  • Pre-washed salad mix bags
  • Degradable or compostable bags
  • Plastic film packaging
  • Chip bags
  • Candy bar wrappers
  • six pack rings
  • frozen food bags

I am now vigilant in my attempt to recycle in a responsible manner. I just didn't know. What is your trick for remembering your reusable bags? Comment on our Facebook Fan Page.
