On my way into work last week I was waved to a halt on the Casco Bay Bridge by two nice ladies helping a mama duck and her nine ducklings cross to the water. I was so touched to see the little family getting an assist by human friends. The little ones couldn't make it up onto the curb to follow mama, but the good citizens helped them. I can only imagine how stressful it was for mama duck! According to the National Wildlife Federation spring in Maine means wildlife emerging with babies, looking for food after a long winter and...mating.
