An abandoned seal pup at Beckmans Point in Hampton, New Hampshire was rescued just in time by SSC Marine Mammal Rescue after beach-goers tried to help by moving it.

The pup was discovered alone on May 26 but authorities weren't contacted until two days later and when they arrived, the animal had been moved and had water poured over it. He also was dehydrated, had a fever and an injury to a flipper. He was so hungry he was suckling on rocks trying to nurse.

The team at Marine Mammal Rescue took the pup to their facility where he is recovering nicely. They aren't sure why or how the pup was abandoned, but it could be any number of reasons.

Marine Mammal rescue wants to remind people that while your intentions may be good, leave an abandoned pup alone and call the professionals to come and do their thing.
