A quarter of our kitchen is taken up by footwear. Our house is 115 years old and apparently a mud room wasn't invented yet, so when we get through the door we kick off our kicks and run around in our socks. The reason for this is not only because we don't want to track snow through the house. Here are some more reasons to take your shoes off!

  • It ruins your carpet, even if the shoes are clean.
  • Your shoes are covered in bacteria. Nasty, nasty stuff, including E. coli and meningitis!
  • In the summer they are covered in pesticides and herbicides from being in the garden or walking across your neighbors treated lawn.
  • Walking around without shoes in the house is better for your feet. It strengthens  your arches.
  • Taking your shoes off when you come home also relieves stress. Subconsciously it's your cue to relax.

Do you take your shoes off at the door? Do you get mad when visitors don't? Give us your take on our fan Page, or tweet #shoesoffatthedoor

Now that I know what's on my shoes, I may never go barefoot again.
