It's National School Lunch Week and we have come leaps and bounds from the days when I was in school buying tuna Italians out of a vending machine!

Thanks, Brenda Carter for all the lunches! I looked up the lunch menus for some of our schools in Blimpville. I may just go back to school, these kids are eating well! Check out Portland High School's October lunch menu!

Week one included Lasagna with Garbanzo Bean and Tomato Salad and Thai Coconut Chicken Curry with Brown Rice! They also offer a burrito bar and offer PB&J yogurt parfaits every day. At Kaler Elementary in South Portland, kids are offered a fresh dough Hawaiian pizza.

I remember those cardboard square pizza slices that were still cold in the middle at my cafeteria!. Kaler is also following the kids' lead and responding to their love of Mexican food by offering chicken fajitas and tacos.

Scarborough High School has some delicious sounding, homey choices, like Orange Chicken with Brown Rice and Grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. Most schools also offer a salad and fruit bar as part of lunch. Great job!

What do kids in other parts of the world eat for lunch? Check out school lunches from around the world!

My favorite was always the rolls. Did you have a cafeteria favorite? Was there something so unforgettably foul that you were turned off for life? I'm glad that I gave meatloaf another shot. Leave your comments on our Fan Page or tweet #nationallunchweek
