In something that seems like it's being pulled straight from The Onion, a new bill that will be heard a public hearing Tuesday would require elected officials in Maine to actually show up for meetings and have face-to-face contact with their constituents.

According to the Sun Journal, elected officials can currently use remote technology, like phones of FaceTime, to join meetings. But the State Legislature's Right To Know Advisory Committee expressed concern that too many elected officials were using remote technology for meetings and not meeting with the public face-to-face.

Two bills are set for consideration tomorrow. One, would disallow officials to continue to use remote technology for these meetings immediately. A second bill would also disallow elected officials to use remote technology for meetings, but that would not take effect until July 1st, 2020.
