The Bangor Daily News has a ridiculous story today about a New Hampshire man who was arrested after paddling away from the police in Portsmouth.

Police allege that Stephen Denault resisted arrest by paddling away from an officer asking questions in the early morning hours of Saturday.

On the Piscataqua River, near the Fish Co-Op on Peirce Island, someone called police in the very early hours to report that someone had fallen into the river and may need assistance.

When the police responded, they allegedly found Denault in a kayak that belonged to someone else. When they asked him to come to shore, he started to paddle away.

The police called in the fire boat, and the allegedly inebriated, paddling thief was caught around 6am.

Lesson learned: Don't paddle away from the police!
