All summer long I have been wearing my white Polo baseball hat to work. I have hair that isn't quite curly when it dries naturally, and the humidity of summer makes an official hair style impossible for me to maintain. So it's long and pulled back and tucked away under my hat. Some women don't have that kind of fashion freedom at their workplace and they really let the pressure of having good hair get to them. According to a new survey, one in three women think that if they don't look their best at work, it affects their career!

Your appearance shouldn't have anything to do with job success, but some women still feel pressure. Here are some other findings from the survey:

  • 25% of the women have cancelled plans with a friend because they didn't like the way they looked that day
  • One in ten have called in SICK because of a hair or skin issue!
  • 10% have cancelled a date
  • 5% have actually hidden inside and refused to go out in public at all

These numbers are just sad to me, but I have to admit that I have experienced such occasions when I felt un-pretty and didn't want to go out. I also have a beautiful girlfriend who has a serious skin condition and when it acts up she works from home.

Girlfriends, have you had these days? Do you wear makeup at work every day? Has bad hair or skin kept you home? Comment on our Fan Page or tweet #badhair

I don't know what I would do without my baseball hat!
