The New England Patriots beat the Chicago Bears 23-22 even with the back story of QB Tom Brady apparently cutting his thumb with scissors before the game and deemed unable to play.

The start went to Jimmy Garoppolo and he did just fine. 16-for-21 passing, a toudown and no picks. He played the entire first half and the first series in the second half.

Rookie Jacoby Brissett finished the game at QB.

As for Brady, coach Bill Belichick would not talk about it after the game but reports from Foxboro say Brady sliced his right thumb before the game as he tried to remove something from his cleats. Instead of starting the game, Brady left the stadium.

The win puts the Pats at 2-0 in the preseason with the Carolina Panthers on the schedule next Friday night.
