Police in Paul Simon Case: ‘There Was Aggressiveness On Both Sides’

Paul Simon and his wife Edie Brickell appeared in court today, asking a judge to dismiss a case in which they were both charged with disorderly conduct. The court case stems from a domestic incident over the weekend at their home in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Simon and Brickell, a 48-year-old singer-songwriter in her own right, have been married since 1992. They have three children together.

Brickell told the judge in nearby Norwalk that her 72-year-old husband was “no threat to me at all,” as both asked that no orders of protection be issued. The judge granted that request, as Simon added: “We’re going to go home. … We’re going to watch our son play baseball.”

Police arrived after 8 p.m. Saturday following a 911 hang-up call to find evidence of physical violence and minor injuries, chief Leon Krolikowski said at a news conference today. He did not say who was injured.

“There was aggressiveness on both sides,” Krolikowski added. “They’re both victims and they have children involved and we’re trying to be very cautious of that.” Brickell and Simon will return to court on May 16. Their attorney, Lawyer Allan Cramer, said the incident that led to their arrest amounted to “much less than nothing.”
