According to WMTW, this Tuesday, August 7, a smoking ban will go into effect for all public housing in Portland. In an effort to create healthier environments and protect people from second hand smoke, smoking will not be permitted in public housing and you must be more than 25 feet from the building to light up, the news station reports.

E-cigarettes will still be allowed.

The rule will now be included in residents' lease agreements, according to WMTW, so break the agreement repeatedly, and you could be evicted. Information and tips for quitting smoking are included with the lease agreement.

The American Lung Association says that this national rule will protect nearly 2 million Americans from second hand smoke, including 690,000 kids, according to WMTW>
