Monday was not a good day for the Boston Red Sox who not only lost their 4th straight game. but also left fielder Hanley Ramirez to a shoulder injury. The Rays scored 4 runs in the first two innings off Clay Buchholz and never looked back on their way to a 5-1 win.

The big loss for the Sox came in the top of the first inning when Hanley Ramirez went crashing into the wall trying to make a catch and had to leave the game. All indications is that it is a sprained shoulder but it also is in a joint that Ramnirez has had surgically repaired twice during his career.

Despite giving up early runs Buchholz kept Boston in the game while pitching into the 7th inning but the flat Sox offense could never get anything going. Rays pitching held the Sox to just 7 although 5 of them were for extra bases. With runners in scoring position Boston was 1-12 in the game.

Rick Porcello pitches game 2 of the series tonight with Boston now alone in last place in the AL East standings.
