This time of year is always a challenge for blood donations because everyone's regular schedule is thrown out the window for travel and holidays. That's why January is National Blood Donor Month. Right now the need for blood and platelets is even more urgent. Because of the relentless winter storms, many blood drives have been canceled and donor centers closed. The American Red Cross needs donations of all blood types. Go to redcrossblood.org to find a donor center near you and to schedule a donation. There will be a blood drive right here at One City Center this Tuesday January 23rd from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The University of New England will host a blood drive January 30th from noon to 6:PM at their 716 Stevens Ave., Portland location.
