When it comes to buying new clothes, I usually don't wash them before wearing them. Unless of course, they are underwear or a bathing suit.
Well, that has all changed because I stumbled upon an article that just set off every red light warning siren in my little Virgo germaphobe mind! I find it necessary to share this information with you and perhaps save you from something ...oogy. Let it be known straight up, that the Professor of Dermatology out of Columbia University Medical Center that did this research, washes his brand new clothes TWICE before wearing them. But here's why. And, ick.

  • Dyes and formaldehyde resins can spark skin irritations and full blown allergies
  • Lice can possibly be spread from trying on clothes
  • Scabies too!
  • The changing room is not the only place where other people come in contact with the clothes you try on, think about the people who manufactured it, the people who shipped it, others who stocked the racks, there's just no telling how many hands (and other parts) have touched your clothing!

If you are into hygiene, and I know you are, then be on the safe side!

I hate to be a shopping buzz-kill.
