Eight girls basketball teams are still practicing this week. They practice for the chance to win one of the four gold basketballs available on State Championship Saturday.

Class A: The matchup is (20-1) Lawrence from the east vs (19-2) Thornton Academy from the west. The Bulldogs haven't been in a state title game since the Cindy Blodgett days. TA has never been in a title game.

Class B:  The (19-2) Presque Isle Wildcats are back in a state game after a one year absence. Hannah Graham and Krystal Kingsbury lead PI. The opponent is the #3 from the west, the (19-2) Greely Rangers. It has been 11 years since Greely last won a state championship.

Class C:  The (19-2) Houlton Shiretowners will represent the east. The (18-3) Maranacook Black Bears are west champs and were the #1 seed. Houlton is led by sensational freshman Kolleen Bouchard.

Class D:  The (21-0) Washburn Beavers will try to set schoolgirl history by winning five consecutive state titles. The opponent is (20-0) Rangley from the west. The Beavers have scored state titles three times over Richmond and once over Forest Hills. The Lakers last state appearance was in 2002.
