NASCAR driver/owner Tony Stewart made it official today - he is retiring as a driver after the 2016 season. He will stay on as an owner of Stewart-Hass Racing.

Stewart, who is 44-years-old, simply says "deep down you know when it's time to do something different."

He was three driver championships on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and 48 race wins.

This year has been a struggle - he is 25th in points.

Two years ago Stewart was involved in that sprint car incident in New York when another driver was killed. No charges were filed against him but the Kevin Ward Jr family has filed a civil suit.
