37 years ago, Eric Clapton  played a sold-out show at the Civic Center. The Backless Tour came to Portland on May 26, 1979.

15 years ago today. Sting played a sold-out show at the Civic Center.  This was his third concert appearance in Portland and his second sell-out.

34 years ago, Ozzy Osbourne played his first solo show at the Civic Center without his close friend, guitarist Randy Rhoads.

Legendary Eagles guitarist, Joe Walsh returns to Blimpville this summer! He played the Civic Center 3 times in the Eighties and we're pretty sure he did a show in the early Nineties at the Ballpark in OOB. So, it's been way too long!

38 years ago, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band made their first trip to the Civic Center in Portland on May 17, 1978.

35 years ago, Van Halen returned to Portland for a third time. It was their second sold-out show as a headliner at the CCCC.

Happy Birthday to legendary New England rock Billy Squier! He was born in Wellesley, Massachusetts on May 12, 1950. His songs from Don't Say No and Emotions in Motion were the soundtrack to growing up in the 80s here in Maine and beyond.  Wouldn't we love to see him get back out on tour again!

36 years ago today, the Grateful Dead made their second sold-out appearance at the Civic Center in Portland. The ‘circus’ came town once again on May 11, 1980.

The Cumberland County Civic Center hosted the first event on March 3, 1977. It's really awesome that the first event was a sold-out rock concert with ZZ Top. About two months later, the second sold-out rock show happened at the new venue. It was a night with Boston!

30 years ago on May 8, 1986, the lovely Wilson sisters made a stop in Portland as they were riding the wave of a huge comeback.

28 years ago, AC/DC played the second of two sold out nights at the Civic Center. These shows are particularly historic for me because they were my first shows with the Thundah from Down Undah. On May 4, 1988, AC/DC rocked Portland on the Blow Up Your Video tour for night two.

35 years ago, Styx brought their Paradise Theatre Tour to Portland! It was a sold out show at the Civic Center on April 19,1981.
