Teenage funk is legendary. No, that is not the name of the latest boy band, but the terrible smell that emanates from a teenager's room. Your pleas for cleanliness may fall on deaf ears. But keep trying, because a professor at Oxford University in England has a theory about messy teenager's bedrooms. Colin Espie is a sleep medicine professor and he believes there is a connection between a teen's smelly bedroom and how they don't want to get out of bed. It actually makes complete sense to me! He says that their dirty, stuffy rooms can result in a bad night of sleep and a headache, because the air in the room has oxygen levels that are low and nitrogen levels that are high! Have your kid pull up the blinds, throw away the trash, do their nasty laundry, vacuum and wipe down every surface - and see what happens. If that doesn't get done, then at least air out the cave by cracking a window for a bit to get clean air in.

I have a serious addiction to both Febreeze and my Swiffer Wet-Jet. I do not know what will become of me or my children if they become smelly teenagers. I worry for us all. I will be the mom that says,"Clean your room or I'll clean it for you! That includes your drawers and the little shelf above the inside of your closet door!" And I'll mean it. The rule in my house will be cleanliness above privacy. You don't like it? Go smell up somebody else's house!
