The American Red Cross is asking Mainers to dig in and help out in the wake of Hurricane Florence by donating blood and platelets.

When natural disaster strikes, not only does the need for blood go up, but it also severely impacts blood donations. As a result of Florence almost 200 blood drives were cancelled, that's more than 52,000 blood and platelet donations lost. Blood donations have been interrupted by the hurricane but across the country there is still a critical need for blood to provide patients with ongoing care as well as emergency care.

Donors of all blood types are needed. Make an appointment to donate through the Blood Donor App, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by visiting RedCross.org.

There are many blood donor opportunities here in Maine, find a one near you here.
