I don't like germs. No, not a bit. I'm an avid hand washer and  I disinfect door knobs and water faucets often and enthusiastically. I recently discovered that kitchen sinks and kitchen sponges are the grossest! I was surprised at some of the things that aren't as nasty as I thought:

Coins- Because they are made of metal they don't support germ life.

Toilets- Scientists say there's 200 times more fecal matter on cutting boards than on toilets because you are more likely to disinfect your toilet!

Dog slobber- No need to back away from those clam-flat kisses, turns out the human mouth is way dirtier than a dog's. Your dog's slobber even has antibacterial stuff in it.

Doorknobs- This is a big one for me. If I can finagle my way out of making direct contact with a doorknob I will. But F.Y.I., the truly icky doorknob is on the way IN. However, because so many people are like me, very few actually touch doorknobs at public restrooms, so they aren't that bad.

Dirt- Believe it or not, unless there's poop in it, the dirt in your yard is perfectly safe.

Trash cans- The deal is, if you use a plastic liner and keep it dry, it's not all that dirty. Germs need moisture to survive.

I hope this information has brought you some peace of mind. But, if you are a Virgo like me, no amount of reassurance will change your diligence when it comes to avoiding "the ick". I wish rubber gloves would come into fashion...
