Thousands of police officers and residents gathered at Exeter High School this morning for a memorial service for Brentwood police officer Stephen Arkell who was killed last week while answering a domestic disturbance call.

Governor Maggie Hassan spoke directly to the family and said, "We are here to support you in any way we can."

Exeter High School athletic director William Ball, who worked with Arkell as a coach, called him "a common man with uncommon values."

The 90 minute ceremony ended with a rifle volley and the playing of "Taps."
