Just about a one year ago, we were saddened to hear of the passing of another rock legend. The great Butch Trucks, drummer (along with Jaimoe) for the Allman Brothers Band, died at 69. He passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2017. Butch was an original member of  the band since 1969 and played drums through their farewell shows in 2014.

From the band's website:

"Butch Trucks, a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, tragically died the night of January 24 in West Palm Beach, Florida. His wife, four children, four grandchildren and all of the Allman Brothers Band, their families and Road Crew survive Butch. The Trucks and Allman Brothers Band families request all of Butch’s friends and fans to please respect our privacy at this time of sadness for our loss. Butch will play on in our hearts forever."

Sadly, we lost Greg Allman just over 4 months later on Memorial Day weekend. It was nice to see Greg honored last night on the Grammy Awards. However, I think they missed a remembrance of Butch.

Watch Trucks tell great old stories about Duane Allman, the band's little mushroom tattoos, why they are smiling on the cover of the Fillmore East album and more.

We count 6 Maine shows over the years. The Allman Bros last played here at the Augusta Civic Center in the summer of 2005.
