We’re celebrating another great show that came to Portland. 38 years ago today, WBLM welcomed back ZZ Top to the Civic Center on April 6, 1980. This came 3 years after they were the very first event and very first rock concert in Blimpville's new arena.

The Lil Ol Band from Texas sure has been good to us! This show was one of 11 appearances at the CCCC from 1977 to 2003. They are so good to us in fact, the show in '03 was the official WBLM 30th Birthday Concert with Ted Nugent opening. Thanks again for helping us celebrate, hombres!

Billy, Dusty, and Frank were touring in support of the album, Deguello featuring the songs I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide, I Thank You and Cheap Sunglasses on the Expect No Quarter tour. April 1980 also marked ZZ Top’s first appearance in Europe, performing for the German music television show Rockpalast.

Watch that 'Little Ol' Band from Texas' perform a wicked killah Tube Snake Boogie (a year before it's release) on that show in the video below!

ZZ Top returns to Blimpville this summer on the Blues and Bayou Tour with John Fogerty.  It lands at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford on June 22nd.
