47 years ago today, Jimi Hendrix played the Open Air Love and Peace Festival in West Germany. With Mitch Mitchell on drums and Billy Cox on bass, this became his last concert performance. 12 days later, Jimi was found dead at 27.

The rowdy crowd was booing by the time Hendrix hit the stage in Fehmarn. Apparently this was because they’d been waiting for quite a while for the show to begin. The eternally cool Hendrix responded saying, “I don’t give a f**k if you boo, as long as you boo in key.” He then introduces the band and starts rippin’!

The footage above is from the last Hendrix concert. Check out this story on his last jam with War, the night before he died.

Did you know that Jimi played in Lewiston? That historic moment in Maine rock history happened 49 years ago. Our good friend Danny Caron (Oak) was the drummer in the opening band that night. He told us that Hendrix patted him on the back as they came off stage and complimented his timekeeping skills. OMFG!! Right? Thanks for that precious memory DC!
