According to WMTW, Hurricane Michael has left 18 people dead with many more people still missing. Nearly 192,000  households are without power and it will be one to two weeks before it can be restored in most areas. The American Red Cross is setting up shelters for the thousands of people that have lost their homes.

WMTW is holding a telethon today until 8pm to benefit the American Red Cross and help with the immediate needs of those affected by Hurricane Michael. WMTW NEWS 8 staff will be answering your phone calls and taking donations at 1-800-791-8141.

Your donations will help the Red Cross run nearly 100 shelters, supply cots, medicines, blankets, clothing and food for people recovering from the storm and the volunteers helping them.

Hurricane Michael is the most destructive and powerful storm to hit the continental U.S. in nearly 50 years.

Donate to the telethon here, or call WMTW's telethon line at 1-800-791-8141.
