Well, it's a pretty basic day in rock history, with the ever-reliable (shall we say) "Meat & Potatoes" of The Beatles & The Stones, today served up with a side of Cali Jam...

4/06/1966 (49 years ago today) - They don't know it, but the making of a bona-fide artistic/cultural landmark is underway: The Beatles begin recording sessions for what would turn out to be the "Revolver" album. Up first, it's a nighttime booking at Abbey Road Studios in London where the boys roll tape for the basic track of John's "Tomorrow Never Knows". Wicked! And it only gets better from here on out...For your further enjoyment, here's that Lennon classic as it's supposed to be heard: in glorious MONO!

4/06/1971 (44 years ago today) - ...and literally three years to the day that The Beatles launched Apple Corps LTD, The Rolling Stones join the fray with their own record label succinctly named "Rolling Stones Records". The label's first release, the ultra-classic-totally-perfect "Sticky Fingers" LP is unleashed a little over two weeks later, on April 23. Nice start to your own label? Yowza indeed!!!

4/06/1974 (41 years ago today) - Over 200,000 fans attend the first "California Jam" Festival held in Ontario, California. On the bill (click on artists' names for setlist info): The Eagles; Black Sabbath; Earth, Wind and Fire; Emerson, Lake and Palmer (were there any 70's festivals that ELP wasn't a part of?); Deep Purple; Rare Earth; Black Oak ArkansasSeals & Crofts. That last one is not a typo.

What do you want from the Calendar? We like to satisfy, so let us know what we can do right here on our web site and on the WBLM Facebook and Twitter pages with the hashtag #TommysCoffeeBreak. Seriously, back then every time you turned around, it seemed like Emerson, Lake & Palmer were headlining another festival!
