8/10/1970 (46 years ago today) - Here's why baby-boomers shake their heads at today's kids 'n their dang downloads: The Top Three albums on the Billboard chart on this date are Simon And Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (No. 1), The Beatles' "Let It Be" (No. 2), and Bob Dylan's then-controversial-{has Bob lost his way?}-double-vinyl set "Self-Portrait" (No. 3). You can get by on just those three albums for long, long, long extended listening hours, in fact we highly recommend it!

8/10/1976 (40 years ago today) - Elton John plays the first of ten sold-out nights in a row at New York City's Madison Square Garden. Mucho moolah at the time: the $1.25 million generated from the run of shows topped the previous record set by The Rolling Stones in 1975. This is the point in his career where Elton suddenly finds himself getting totally maxxed-out...even he's getting sick of himself.

8/10/1943 - Happy Birthday to Veronica Yvette Bennett, better known as the legendary Ronnie Spector, 73 years old today. The "Original Bad Girl Of Rock And Roll" is the lead vocalist on some of the greatest singles ever made: with The Ronettes alone, you got "Be My Baby", "Baby, I Love You", "Walking In The Rain", "The Best Part Of Breaking Up", "Do I Love You?" -- also did duets with Southside Johnny ("You Mean So Much To Me", produced by Little Steven of The E Street Band) and Eddie Money (the Top 5 stellar classic "Take Me Home Tonight"). Her latest album "English Heart" was released earlier this year featuring Ronnie's sassy-one-of-a-kind takes on British Invasion songs by The Beatles, The Yardbirds, Bee Gees and more. Well worth seeking out, by the way.
