8/16/1977 (42 years ago today) - One of the most highly regarded and significant cultural icons of the 20th century, Elvis Presley (his real name) passed away on this date at his home in Memphis, Tennessee; he was only 42 years old.

Elvis' first record for RCA was "Heartbreak Hotel"; it became his first Number One on April 23, 1956 -- It stayed at No. 1 for eight weeks in a row. Fact: Elvis holds the record for the most entries on the U.S. Hot 100 chart with 154!!!

Even long after he died, Elvis still was a trend-setter, becoming the first rock 'n' roll artist to be honored by the U.S. Postal Service with a set of commemorative stamps that traced his entire career. Now, performance-wise, it is beyond-ridiculously hard to pick only one, but this here is in our Top 3:
